Exposure And Response Prevention (ERP)
Our Exposure and Response Prevention Services
Our staff members have specialized expertise in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). One of the ways we treat OCD, and sometimes anxiety, is through a technique called Exposure and Response Prevention or ERP.
ERP is an evidence-based therapeutic treatment technique that involves exposing yourself to certain situations in an effort to later prevent an adverse response. For any further questions you may have, please reach out to one of our mental health professionals for more information.
What Is ERP?
The “exposure” in ERP refers to exposing yourself to the thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make you anxious and/or trigger your obsessions. Subsequently, the “response prevention” refers specifically to making a choice not to do a compulsive behavior once the anxiety or obsessions have been “triggered.”
This process is initially done under the guidance of a therapist with the expectations of equipping you with the necessary skills and confidence to begin exercising it in an effort to better manage your symptoms. We also offer a more intensive option which involves a higher frequency of sessions in a more condensed period of time.
