EMDR/Trauma therapy for veterans and civilians
Our clinicians have specialization in the treatment of trauma and trauma related disorders. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, otherwise known as EMDR, is a highly researched and evidence-based therapeutic treatment modality that aims to treat symptoms (i.e. nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, irritability) which may be a result of troubling or unwanted life experiences. EMDR has proven to be clinically effective in treating a broad range of pathologies with particular efficacy in helping to reduce the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Various professional organizations suggest EMDR as an effective treatment including the American Psychiatric Association, Department of Defense & Veterans Affairs, and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
Interestingly and quite dissimilar to many other types of treatment, EMDR focuses on directly addressing the memory of a traumatic experiences and is thus intended to change the way that particular memory is stored within the brain. Sessions of EMDR aim to access unwanted memories and do so within the boundaries of a clinically safe environment with a specially-trained therapist who will walk you through the process every step of the way ensuring your comfortability through the beginning, middle, and end of each session.
